The International Affairs and Trade team at GO-Biz administers the Export Training Program grant for service organizations to support California small businesses with export training to build the knowledge and capacity to learn and begin exporting.

Small businesses can learn about the different export training programs and schedules that best work for them.

Black Tech Link

This export training program, Breaking Through Global Boundaries, in San Diego County is outreaching to Black and other minority businesses across all sectors. The program will deliver a 6-part training workshop across two cohorts, each consisting of small business participants. The program focuses on export business planning, global market entry strategies, logistics planning, and educating small businesses in export compliance. Additionally, it provides technical assistance through market evaluations, individualized export plans, and support in selecting freight agents, completing export documentation, and managing the shipping process. Participants will also receive market intelligence reports and connections with the International Trade Administration.

 

California Center for International Trade Development (CITD)

Take your business global with our 2-day Export Launchpad workshop, tailored for small business owners and entrepreneurs in all sectors. This workshop provides practical tools and strategies to help you confidently expand into international markets. Whether you’re new to exporting or refining your approach, you’ll gain the expertise needed to navigate global trade complexities. 

 

California ETEC

This export service training program in Orange County is aimed at Asian American businesses in the franchising, SaaS, healthcare, and tourism sectors, offering support in Cambodian, Vietnamese, and Punjabi. The program features Cohort Consulting, consisting of three-monthly online events to provide ongoing support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Furthermore, Rural Export Roadshows will host in-person trade education events for 50 small businesses in Northern California counties, including Butte, Glenn, Shasta, Sutter, and Tehama. The above programs will be supported with high-value webinars that will provide actionable insights and resources to expand business opportunities in the regions of ASEAN, Middle East and North Asia.

 

EDC Ventura

This Southern California export training program focuses on manufacturers, wholesalers, biotech, and aerospace sectors. It offers two tracks:

  • Mastering Export Strategy Preparation, a six-week course helping businesses develop comprehensive, tailored export strategies using market analysis tools.
  • Roadmap to Exporting, a four-week course providing foundational export knowledge on legal, financial, and logistics considerations. Both tracks equip participants with practical skills to navigate international markets and tailor export strategies to their business needs.

 

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce

This program is designed to train and assist new-to-export (NTE) and new-to market (NTM) manufacturers in the Los Angeles-Orange County region, especially if from minority and other underserved communities in the Clean Technologies, Biotech, Aerospace, and Consumer Products industries.

 

The program offers three tracks, with mentoring by subject matter experts to keep participants motivated and engaged throughout the process.

 

  • Export 101: A series of 8 export-capacity-building workshops for new-to-export manufacturers with at least one year in business;
  • Export 201: A series of 5 more advanced export workshops for manufacturers already exporting to a few markets, but seeking market diversification to high potential additional markets.
  • Career Development: Training to become Certified Global Business Professionals (CGBPs) or for careers as Export Management Companies or in international freight forwarding.

 

The WMarketplace

From Local to Global: A 6-Week Virtual Workshop Series on the Basics of Exporting for California Women Entrepreneurs by The WMarketplace

 

Expand your business from local to global with our 6-week virtual workshop series. Tailored for California-based, new-to-export, women-owned online businesses, this program provides practical, step-by-step guidance on exporting your products to international markets. Led by expert facilitators with expertise in exporting, and featuring bilingual support (English and Spanish), the workshops cover everything from market research and logistics to leveraging state and federal resources to help you navigate the export journey. Small cohorts of just fifteen companies enable interaction and connection. Over twelve weeks of follow-on mentorship you will develop a customized export strategic plan that reflects your business goals and strengths. Empower your business to grow globally and tap into new opportunities.

 

University of San Diego

The “Sí Exporto”  program is designed specifically for 20  Hispanic American small businesses in San Diego County looking to unlock global business opportunities. This export training program will be delivered entirely in Spanish and will consist of five, three-hour workshops in which participants  dive into export fundamentals from marketing products abroad to export compliance to selling internationally and getting paid.  Each business will work closely with an assigned Knauss School of business international business student consultant who will develop a customized international market entry plan, in Spanish,  for their assigned company client. The program supports the creation of an export ready workforce by funding students to become NASBITE Certified Global Business professionals.

 

World Trade Center Northern California

The World Trade Center Northern California’s export training program, World Trade Connect, targets Northern California’s businesses across all sectors, offering two tracks:

  1. Incubator Track: provides virtual training for up to 50 businesses to prepare them for export readiness. Sessions will be held in English and Spanish in partnership with the California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  Participating companies will gain a solid understanding of how to export and available resources.   
  2. Accelerator Track: is a 10-week program for two cohorts of new-to-export businesses. Participating companies will develop an Export Action Plan and receive Global Market Research assistance. Companies completing the program will participate in a “Pitch Session” for funding to help implement their export plan

 

Both tracks are offered virtually with the goal of helping small businesses successfully enter global markets.

Export Training

The California Export Training Network was launched on January 10, 2020. It is a multi-organizational partnership focused on expanding the state’s exports and export training efforts. Our goal is to promote, support, and increase the number of California exporters in all regions of California by providing export training in conjunction with stakeholder partners. Network partners will work collaboratively to support California businesses and regional economies with their international aspirations.
